Just as the offseason kicked off in mid February, Durde was hired to become the Seattle Seahawks’ new defensive coordinator, becoming the first British coordinator in NFL history. Durde’s first exposure to the NFL came in 2005 when – as part of the NFL International Development Practice Squad program, an early predecessor to the IPP – he spent some time on the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers. He spent three seasons as part of the Falcons’ defensive coaching staff, working across a number of roles under head coach Dan Quinn. His permanent hiring in 2018 meant Durde became the first British full-time coach in NFL history. Under Durde’s stewardship, Dallas’ defensive line developed into one of the most feared in the league, in particular star linebacker Micah Parsons.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to contracts with former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley and former New York Jets defensive end Bryce Huff, two people familiar with the deals told The Associated Press on Monday. The Giants used the tag last season and eventually worked out a one-year, $10.1 million contract before the start of training camp. A franchise tag this year would have cost the team $12.2 million if Barkley accepted the offer. The 25-year old Huff spent the last four seasons with the New York Jets. Huff thanked the Jets and their fans in a social media post but did not acknowledge his deal with the Eagles.

A Super Bowl champion with Philadelphia, Ertz returns to the NFC East as the first big addition for new Commanders general manager Adam Peters. Don Henley and Glenn Frey followed a routine while writing some of the most emblematic and enduring songs of the 1970s. The men, who co-founded the Eagles, would rent a house and bring in a piano and guitars. The two would rise in late morning — “musician time,” Mr. Henley testified in a Manhattan courtroom on Monday. They would make coffee, then have “philosophical” conversations and begin trying out riffs and discussing “song titles, subject matters, concepts,” he said. Mr. Henley paid particular attention to lyrics, crafting and refining them on legal pads.

In the late 1970s, a writer working on a book about the Eagles that would never be published obtained 100-odd pages of notes and lyrics related to the multiplatinum album “Hotel California.”The papers included handwritten drafts of lyrics by the band’s songwriter and drummer, Don Henley. Decades later, according to court documents, the writer, Ed Sanders, sold the trove to a prominent dealer in rare manuscripts who had placed the papers of Norman Mailer and Tom Wolfe in university libraries and had worked to sell Bob Dylan’s archive for a sum estimated at up to $20 million. In 2022, prosecutors in Manhattan said that the manuscript dealer, Glenn Horowitz, and two other men had been charged with conspiring to possess stolen property valued at over $1 million that included embryonic versions of hits like “Hotel California,” “New Kid in Town” and “Life in the Fast Lane.”On Wednesday, the three men are scheduled to go on trial in an unusual proceeding that may feature testimony from Mr. Henley, who told a grand jury the material was stolen. The trial will be decided by the judge, not a jury.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs placed All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney on injured reserve and activated running back Jerick McKinnon on Saturday, finalizing the roster that they will take into the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs ruled Thuney out for Sunday's game earlier in the week because of an injury to his pectoral muscle that he sustained in their divisional win in Buffalo. Veteran backup Nick Allegretti will get his second start in a Super Bowl in his place. McKinnon is especially useful in the passing game, where he had 25 catches and four touchdowns in 12 games this season. The Chiefs designated defensive tackle Mike Pennel to be their lone practice squad elevation for the Super Bowl.

BOSTON (AP) — Bill O’Brien will be the new head coach at Boston College, opting to return to his hometown for a top job instead of taking the offensive coordinator position at Ohio State he accepted just last month, a person with direct knowledge of the move told The Associated Press on Friday. The Boston native, who was the New England Patriots offensive coordinator last season, replaces Jeff Hafley, who left Chestnut Hill to be defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. Since then, he has worked for Alabama and the Patriots as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The Patriots went 4-13 last season and fired Bill Belichick, replacing him with Jerod Mayo. When the Eagles opened this season 1-3, Hafley’s job was in jeopardy; five straight wins earned them another bowl berth.

Tim McGraw — his name also the title of one of Swift's early breakout hits — delivered the game ball. Hackash said the team mostly worked through Swift’s family, including her parents Scott and Andrea, to snag an appearance. LAS VEGAS (AP) — When the Super Bowl was in the balance in the fourth quarter a year ago, coach Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs put a twist on their frequent pre-snap motion. Two wide-open touchdown passes that helped the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 for a Super Bowl title. “He gives you all different types of looks, funky looking plays, different misdirections,” 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner said. “I think to put it simply, they do a really good job of marrying their run plays to their pass plays,” Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill said. But with more defenses disguising coverages and switching after the snap, the motion can confuse defenses and create breakdowns in coverage.

CNN —Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce could potentially be heading towards retirement, but right now, he appears to be focused on having the time of his life. The seven-time Pro Bowl center was in attendance in western New York on Sunday in support of his younger brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce was also seen in among the action before the game as well. Kelce and Swift are spotted in the suite ahead of the game. All in all, while it might have been a Kelce family day to remember, Jason definitely seemed to be the one in the best spirits.

The Detroit Lions have agreed to a deal with three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz, a person familiar with the decision the told The Associated Press on Monday night. Ertz caught the go-ahead touchdown in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl win over New England six years ago and set a record for catches by a tight end in a season with 116 in 2018. Ertz was traded by the Eagles to Arizona during the 2021 season and asked for his release from the Cardinals earlier this season. The Lions had little depth at tight end behind rookie Sam LaPorta after Brock Wright was knocked out of Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay with a forearm injury. Only Anthony Firkser remained with LaPorta in the tight end room.
